The reason why most people choose to fly to Verbier is that it’s undoubtedly the most convenient, fastest, and easiest way to travel. As we already mentioned, one of the most popular ways to get to Verbier is to fly to Geneva International airport, which is only 160km from the center of Verbier.

If you choose to fly to Verbier, Geneva is undoubtedly your best choice as it offers frequent flights to and from multiple different destinations in Europe. This includes cities from all over the UK and Ireland such as London, Manchester, and Liverpool, and Bristol. You can also fly from various capitals in America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

For instance, if you want to go from London to Verbier, the flight to Geneva airport will last only 1 hour and 40 minutes. Most European cities are under 2 hours away from Geneva airport, so if you’re traveling from somewhere in Europe, you don’t have a long flight ahead of you.

Of course, this isn’t your only option for air travel, as you can also choose to arrive at one of the other airports in the near vicinity, such as:

  • Sion airport (closest airport to Vebrier) – 61km distance, or a 1 hour and 10-minute drive
  • Geneva airport – 160km distance, or a 2-hour drive
  • Bern Airport – 170km distance, or a 2 hour and 15-minute drive

There are multiple to get to Verbier from the Geneva airport, so let’s take a closer look at your options.

Airport transfer

The fastest and easiest way to get to Verbier from the airport is by airport transfer. It takes around two hours to arrive in Verbier via Geneva to Verbier transfer, however, it is longer during peak weeks such as Christmas and New Year and on snowy days.

We recommend Tesla Transfers, which offer private transfers in a variety of vehicles, such as the Tesla full-electric supercar. You can rent a car for 3-4 hours so you can arrive at your resort, where an employee from Tesla Transfers will meet you to pick up the car.

Even though people usually rent a transfer for 3-4 hours, you can also choose a half-day or a full day rental option. Additionally, when your vacation is finished, you can also rent an airport transfer to drive you from your accommodations back to the airport.

Airport car hire

If you’re staying in a hotel, rented chalet, or an apartment that has private parking and is a long way from the ski lifts, it would be a better choice to drive a rented car to your resort. And if you don’t manage to find an available transfer for your flight time and want to have a car straight away, you can hire one from the airport.

Hiring a car from the Geneva airport gives you much more freedom than renting an airport transfer, and you can drive to neighboring resorts and explore the scenery. If you’re visiting Verbier during snowy weather, you need to consider safety and potential damage that could occur on the snowy roads.

Verbier is a large resort and driving from the airport can be a good option if you’re staying in a chalet, hotel, or apartment with private parking, especially if it’s a long way from the ski lifts. However, you can also rent out snow tires, but they will be added to your final cost of the car hire.

Car rental

Finally, if you want to look into the option of renting a car outside of the airport, you can visit RentalCars.com to compare prices from different car-hire firms. Most bookings offer free cancelations and you can be sure that you will get the best possible offer.

Ski equipment

Since most people come to Verbier during the skiing season, a lot of guests bring their own equipment. Luckily, airlines, trains, and transfer companies all have their ways of catering to passengers who travel with their own skis, snowboards, or any other equipment.

By plane

If you’re planning on bringing any kind of equipment with you when traveling by plane, know that most airlines will charge a fee for that. However, there are few airlines, such as Swiss, that allow you to bring one set of skis or a single snowboard for free.

When you’re packing for your trip, make sure to pack all of the necessary gear but also make sure that it falls within all the packaging guidelines that the airline you’re using has specified.

By train

If you’re traveling via Eurostar, you’re allowed to bring one part of skis or a snowboard for free, and that’s in addition to their standard allowance of two-bag luggage. TGB trains also allow free ski transportation.

Those who want to bring their bikes can do so on most French trains, as they have a special carrying case for disassembled bikes. This option might also include a fee, so make sure to do research. If this doesn’t appeal to you, there is also a special luggage carriage in which bikes can be transported.

By airport transfer

Most shuttle buses are well-equipped and have enough room to store skiing equipment, but if you’re taking a shuttle, it’s very important to specify what equipment pieces you will be bringing beforehand. That way, the shuttle company can ensure there is enough capacity.

Once again, there might be a surcharge for bringing sports equipment, so make sure to ask about it before you book your shuttle.
